Painting pots

Potty about painting pots!

We see such a wide variety of people at Just Pottering About, all of whom really seem to get a thrill out of painting pots.

There are children of all ages, who just love getting messy with a brush and paint – causing their parents much angst in the process. Of course, many will be well-used to painting from nursery, playgroup and home for that matter; however the chance to decorate an actual, functional object that they get to keep is really exciting for them.

It's very sweet to see the look on their faces when they come to collect their creation. Just so long as it gets home safely (that's another story!), it's sure to take pride of place on a mantelpiece or bookcase somewhere. Although, handing the pot over often comes with the parental caveat of, "Careful, it's not a toy!"

Painting pots is also an enjoyable experience for adults – some of whom like to spend the whole two hours intricately crafting and tweaking their object as if it's soon to go under the hammer at Sotheby's!

Then there are the mavericks who waste no time at all in splashing some paint on and sitting back to admire their work. Of course, these generally aren't the people who are painting pots to be given as gifts; they tend to take great care in getting everything just right.

Finally, it is particularly great to see children and adults with physical or mental disabilities gaining pleasure from painting pots. Everyone's creation is unique, just like the person themselves, and spending a few hours devoting your attention to what is a thoroughly stimulating experience can only be a good thing.
